To prepare garage floors for painting the floors have to be cleaned with a compound such as TSP and washed properly. The trick is to let the floors dry completely before painting them. There is a simple way of checking when your concrete or other porous floors are ready to be painting. Take a piece of plastic and tape it to the floor from all sides. Let it stay for no more than twenty-four hours. Condensation on the plastic will mean it still has moisture inside. Dry plastic, however, will mean it is ready for next step - painting.

When you choose your paint make sure to take the paint that is specific for garage floors. If you will purchase regular floor paint it will peel off because of the high temperature and friction of car Tires. Most of the stores carry latex and oil paints for garage floors. Oil paint will create a harder and more durable finish; however in general, oil paints are more slippery. Latex paint contains lower level of VOC and dries Faster.

Application should be done with a high quality roller. Temperature should not be less than 10 degrees or more than 20 degrees. Ideally, it is best to let the paint cure before using the floors. For oil paints curing time is usually more than latex applications.

With the right garage floor paint your concrete floors will stay protected and look great for a long time to come.
